Fine wool, creating a smooth, thin tapestry-like surface.

The Saltillo runner, also known as the Saltillo sarape, stands as a masterwork of Mexican weaving tradition. Handcrafted by descendants of the Tlaxcalan people in Saltillo, Coahuila, these blankets are renowned for their intricate, fine weaving. Unlike mass-produced versions such as the sarape or Falsa, Saltillo runners are painstakingly created by hand, resulting in a lighter, thinner fabric with unparalleled attention to detail.

Originating in the 17th century, Saltillo pieces emerged at the crossroads of Indigenous weaving traditions and Spanish colonial influence. The artisans who created them transformed the simple sarape into a sophisticated textile, often dedicating months to complete a single piece.

These pieces were highly valued, worn by the elite, and exchanged as gifts to signify wealth and status. Their exceptional craftsmanship played a key role in establishing Saltillo as a prominent hub for textile production.
